(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor , the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), has urged Muslims to take advantage of the Ramadan fast to pray for the peace and stability of the country.

In his Ramadan goodwill message to Nigerian Muslims in Lagos on Tuesday, the CAN president said: “Ramadan is a period when adherents remember the less fortunate members of the society.

“It is an established fact that the 30-day fasting exercise inculcates a sense of belonging in Muslims throughout the world, as they fast together and experience the pangs of hunger and thirst.

“It is a period which brings them closer to God and subsequently their prayers are answered.”

Oritsejafor urged Islamic leaders to use the occasion to re-orientate the peoples’ minds through the preaching of tolerance and the fear of Allah.

He urged members of the Boko Haram sect to use the occasion of this year’s Ramadan to go beyond the recent claim of sheathing the arms to embrace permanent peace.

“Violence does not help any situation, instead, it aggravates it.

“The sect members should embrace peace because the progenitor of Islam advocated peace as the basis for the practise of the Islamic faith,” he said.
