Senior Iranian Cleric Blasts Azerbaijan Anti-Islamic Policies

Friday Prayer Leader of Tabriz warned about the Anti Islamic movements in Azerbaijan.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - "The Anti Islamic acts and move should be terminated in the Republic of Azerbaijan," Friday Prayer Leader of Tabriz, Ayatollah Mohsen Mojtahed Shabestari said.

The Islamic scholar announced that people in Tabriz are about to rally against the pathetic anti-Islamic movement heppening in the former Soviet state.

Ayatollah Mojtahed Shabestari underscored that Muslim people , especially in Iran, are hurt by abysmal condition and the current pressure over Muslims in the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The cleric also pointed to the new policy of Azeri government and anti Islamic movements such as homosexual parade in the country calling the act 'disappointing and pathetic'.

Ayatollah Mojtahed Shabestari earlier had underscored recent showdowns between government and nation lag this country behind and urged Muslims not to be reticent in such condition making a move against the pathetic milieu in Azerbaijan.

The Republic of Azerbaijan has the second highest Shia population  after Iran.

Roughly 95 percent of the population are Muslims. 85% of the Muslims are Shia and 15% Sunni Muslims.
