(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has called against attempts to artificially exacerbate the contradictions between Sunnites and Shiites in Syria and the region in general.
"It is especially regrettable that the contradictions between Sunnites and Shiites are being artificially exacerbated. It's a dangerous path, which need to be avoided at all costs," Lavrov told a press conference in Moscow.
"I hope that all responsible members of the world community, primarily Islamic countries, and also Western countries and everyone else will draw the right conclusions and will stop in time," Lavrov said.
Lavrov said "the attempts to entice the parties to continue the military conflict [in Syria] violate a UN Security Council resolution."
"I am convinced that all those who are doing that should say honestly if they are ready to help, but sincerely, without any parallel actions in the opposite direction, and help to end the violence and promote dialogue in Syria involving the government and all opposition groups, like the UN Security Council said, with support from the entire world community, but some members of the world community have a hidden agenda and they really want a change of regime," Lavrov said.
Lavrov also expressed concerns about the existence "of a real threat that the conflict in Syria will spread to Lebanon, where it can end very badly, bearing in mind the history and the ethnic and religious setup of this country's population and the principles on which the Lebanese state is based."
