(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Egyptian authorities have arrested several people for allegedly selling “invisible ink” pens in polling stations on the first day of the presidential runoff elections.

Secretary General of the Supreme Presidential Elections Commission Hatem Bagato said most of the suspects were arrested in the coastal city of Alexandria and authorities have started an investigation into the plot.

The inks of the pens will be erased two to four hours after writing and they have been distributed among the voters with the aim of damaging the election process, he said.

After the spread of the rumor, the commission called for distribution of 50,000 pens in 13,000 polling stations, urging the judges of the polling centers to use only indelible ink pens.

Egyptian people are going to the polls for the second and final day of voting on Sunday to choose their president with the Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohammed Morsi running against former Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq.

The historic elections began two days ahead of a controversial decision by the country’s Supreme Constitutional Court to dissolve the parliament.

The Muslim Brotherhood slammed the decision, demanding a referendum to be held on the issue. In a statement issued on Saturday the Islamic party said the political gains of the revolution are at risk and “dangerous days” are ahead.
