(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Tatarstan Mufti Ildus Faizov, who was injured in an attack last week, was discharged from Kazan's Republican Hospital on Tuesday, spokesman for Tatarstan's Health Ministry Nurislam Gilmutdinov told Interfax.

"The mufti is in stable condition. He has received all of the medications prescribed to him. His local physician will now continue treating him and will decide when the mufti will be able to resume fasting and return to work," the spokesman said.

Police officers will guard the mufti's house and apartment, a local Interior Ministry spokesman told Interfax.

Faizov left his car to make a call seconds before an explosion ripped through it on July 19. The mufti was taken to Kazan's Hospital No. 5 with an ankle fracture and other injuries. He was subsequently transferred to the Republican Hospital, where he underwent an operation.

After the surgery, the mufti had to stop his Ramadan fast because doctors said that it could hamper his treatment and speedy recovery.

Faizov's deputy, Valiulla Yakupov, was shot dead outside his house an hour before the mufti's car was blown up.

Yakupov was buried at Kazan's Al-Marjani Muslim cemetery on July 20.

"Yakupov was a strong supporter of the fight against Wahhabism and
sought a ban on Wahhabism all over Russia, seeing it as a real threat to traditional Islam," the source said.
