35 heads of state to attend NAM summit in Tehran: Official |
(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “So far, around 100 countries have announced they will be present in the NAM summit and, all together, based on the latest announcements by the countries, 41 states will attend the summit at the highest level,” said Mohammad-Reza Forqani, the director general for international affairs at Iran’s Presidential Office and the spokesman for the organizing committee of the summit on Saturday.
According to the official arrangements, 35 heads of state, five deputy presidents, one parliament speaker, 21 foreign ministers, 2 government ministers as well as a numbers of high-ranking diplomats will represent the 100 states that have so far confirmed their participation at the NAM summit, he added.
The 16th summit of the NAM member states will be held on August 26-31 in the Iranian capital during which the Islamic Republic will assume the rotating presidency of the movement for three years.
Forqani expressed satisfaction with the orderly course of the preparations for the event and added that more NAM member states are announcing their preparedness to participate in the summit.
The spokesman noted that the meeting of the NAM senior experts and foreign ministers will comprise three committees, including the political committee chaired by Cuba, the economic and social committee headed by Egypt and the Palestine committee chaired by Palestine.
NAM, an international organization with 120 member states and 21 observer countries, is considered as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
